POSITION: WIC Nutritionist
REPORTS TO: WIC Supervisor
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Determines program participant eligibility consistent with regulations and policies.
- Documents nutritional risk status and prescribes food packages for program participants.
- Issues and secures supplemental food instruments.
- Implements county-level nutrition education plan, including mandated nutrition education contact.
- Prepares nutritional care plans for high-risk participants in coordination with RD.
- Provides staff training and orientation in accordance with the WIC resource manual.
- Supports and participates in marketing activities being undertaken for the office/program.
- Provides high-quality customer service and marketing interventions within the service area.
- Travels to contracted sites.
- Works in any Nutrition Services program as needed; see program-specific job description.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Performs breastfeeding counseling when breastfeeding peer counselor is not available.
- Makes referrals to outside social services as needed.
- Assumes phone duties, including scheduling, answering questions, making courtesy calls, and re-directing other offices as needed.
- Follows up on participants/patients who have missed appointments, newly applied for benefits, and/or need education letters.
- Provides individualized nutrition education to program participants using state agency-approved counseling techniques.
- Assembles equipment and information to take to satellite locations.
- Ensures nutrition education delivery is following AND standards, program guidance, and USDA guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BS degree in nutrition/dietetics or public health, including medical nutrition therapy I and II. Excellent interpersonal skills and a desire for providing public health nutrition education. Must maintain PA criminal background check, FBI clearances, and child abuse clearances. Must have a valid driver's license. Travel required.
